I'm keen to do a 3 or 4 day walk in the Hattah - Kulkyne Park, and was wondering if anyone had some experience or ideas. Planning to go this Spring, and assume would need to do water drops near the campsites.

Can't say I know of any walks in the Hattah-Kulkyne, but there is a walk described in one of the books (chapmans I think) which is a 3 day walk from the Pink Lakes to Mt Crozier & return via some other spot. There is a walkers only camp at Mt Crozier but you would have to check on water supplies & the second leg doesn't end at a water point so drops would be required. A high clearance 4x4 would be required to get in there

Apparently problems with the lake water at the moment, plus some flooding . . .

Thanks guys -I need to talk to PV because of the flooding and closed tracks, but it's looking good for 6 weeks time.

I have camped at the Lake Mournpall facility - about 12 years ago. There was water in it then and we were able to sail on the lake with a catamaran.

There are plenty of walks and tracks in the area on that side of the highway that I know of - and yes you will need to carry water or arrange water drops as I notice there is an alert about the water in the park at the moment.

Theres good walking in Hattah Kulkye. Since its flat you can cover a heap of it in 3-4 days. I've drunk the Murray water but I woudn't drink the lake water. The power lines are a good handrail for navigation. Just a tip, when the lakes flood its hard to make sense of the map.

Pink Lakes is a ripper 3 day walk. Rangers put in a trail & some discrete water tanks a few years back. Havent been there for a while though.
