Hi,
We are planning a 5 day walk in this area early Feb 2012. We'd like to do an expedition (not day walks) and are experienced off track hikers.
What recommendations do people have about routes and transport to start/end locations? (We have a 4WD and are coming up from Sydney.)
We are keen for tracked and off track, hard physical walking is in too.
We want to see this beautiful part of the world as described in Bernard O'Reilly's Green Mountains and Cullenbenbong.
Cheers,
Nomes

Unfortunately well out of print, 'Bushpeople's Guide to Bushwalking in South-East Queensland' has good (and the only published) descriptions of off-track walking in the area of interest so see if you can get or loan a copy. Chapters 11 and 12.
There are no obvious circular routes for five days of 'expedition' walking starting and finishing at your 4WD. Suggested interesting off-track routes are, and you will have to know how to navigate with map and compass: Middle Ridge Traverse (Fountain Falls), Lost World (Mt. Razorback) to Mt. Worendo, Running Creek Falls, Nixon Creek. The Stretcher track is a historical link to Bernard O'Reilly but now heavy going with treefalls etc. Search the forum for more info as some of these routes have been mentioned before.
