Wiilman Bilya Trail on Track [Collie]

Postby Aushiker » Fri 01 Jul, 2022 2:45 pm

Brief details to be found at https://www.ourwaparks.org.au/wiilman-b ... -on-track/

There are four purpose-built campsites along the Wiilman Bilya trail. Hikers can also book a campsite at DBCA’s Potters Gorge campground and choose from a variety of accommodation venues in and around Collie. There is also the option to use the Bibbulmun Track’s Yabberup campsite for an extra day.

Sounds like a pleasant wander - has anyone walked whatever currently exists of this trail?
There’s a very unflattering trip report from 3 years ago, relating to one section, here:

An update on the trail:

A 56km section has now been opened making it a four-day walk.

Trail is open in full. so a 87km circuit track. The roadworks at the dam leads you to rely on the dam wall crossing which the sign says open 9-5 weekends and school holidays (but hopefully every day soon). Trail well marked and clear. Yes it is more Jarrah forest around Collie so you probably know what to expect. The area around the dam is used for 4WD camping so this is not all wilderness and the huts are large shelters with a few benches big enough for your thermarest but not bunks (probably to discourage 4WD campers staying). An obvious improvement on the Wellington spur trail of the Bibbulmun as it has swimming.
