I’m interested in doing this coastal walk in SA before too long. Probably set aside three weeks or so in the cooler months of the year. Keen to hear from anyone who has hiked the full trail and what you thought of it?

They say ... i'm from SA, so also interested, ... they say that like the Bibbulmun Track in WA, there's a portion of it that really makes it worth the visit. That's the bottom bit I think, from the heel to the toe and possibly up to Corny Point before heading east and back to towns, roads and housing. I know that Port Victoria ("Port Veek") features strongly in Eric Newby's The Last Grain Race - where the giant sailing ships raced to pick up wheat till 1939. What history remains there I don't know. You probably know of the Copper Triangle. Cartographics on Unley Rd has the map set and are very helpful.

I do not want to convince you not to walk it particularly if you like coastlines and relatively flat walking, some history and a few pub meals close to the track.

However if you want to explore more spectacular coast and had limited time I would focus on the lower parts and particularly Innes ( although not as many pub meals), and would also look at other walks including the start of the Heysen from Cape Jervis to Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

That all said I have only walked small parts of the Walk the York, just be prepared for it being long and some of it not being as spectacular as some other parts of the SA coast.
