fagus on central plateau or elsewhere?

Hi, I'm planning on a walk of up to 5 days to catch the fagus. I'm familiar with areas at Mt Field, Cradle , Murchison and Tyndal but am looking for somewhere new and wonder if I've missed anywhere. I like the central plateau, does anyone know of fagus there?

Yes Ros - it's all over the Central Plateau. But some of the best pockets I've seen are around the Orion Lakes, between the Traveller Range and the Mountains of Jupiter. It's untracked, so you'd want a good forecast and competence in off-track navigation. It should colour up about the same time as the fagus on the southern flanks of the Du Cane Range (visible from the Overland Track near Windy Ridge). It's usually best in early May, but maybe check through this forum with anyone who has walked the Overland Track after about Anzac Day.

There is none at the Walls of J, but some along Lake Ball, L Adelaide and L Meston. Lots on the Cathedral Plateau, Some around the Chinaman Plains, A fair bit near the Ling Roth Lakes. Very good on the Traveller Range - especially between the Orion Lakes and Lake Pallas.

Further west - some around Pelion Gap. Lots near Big Gun Pass, Both side of the Geryon, Heaps in upper Pine Valley, and a fir bit around the Labyrinth (best perhaps at Pool of Memories and environs).

Thanks, I'd forgotten to say I know of areas around geryon, labyrinth and travellers range. I'm keen to go to less well known areas. Dave, do you know any particular locations on the central plat or chinamans plains? I'm especially interested in the plains as I haven't been there yet apart form the northern lakes along the great pine tier. Ros
