Frenchman's Cap

Postby kalium » Sun 14 Jul, 2013 2:43 pm

Picked some really good weather to head out last week. Sunny skies almost the whole time.

It took me 4 hours to get into Lake Vera. I have never been on the 'old' track that goes straight through the Lodden plains, but the new track
was pretty much a casual stroll compared to the rest of the track. There are still some knee deep bogs on the part of the Lodden plains that hasn't been re-routed.

Unfortunately I only had about 24 hours to do the hike in, so I only got up as far as Barron Pass, before having to turn around. I'm glad I did though, what a view! Plenty of ice and snow on the track on the way up.
Quickly stopped back in at Vera for a late breakfast, before heading back to the carpark. Made it back in about 3.75 hours from Lake Vera. By that time my legs, knees and back were very very sore :)

Fantastic views! Lovely to see it with snow on, we were there a few weeks back and there wasn't any snow at all :P Funny how quickly things can change.
