Pieman River

Postby Lorraine » Sun 21 Jul, 2013 2:18 pm

My partner and I had the most rewarding time in Tasmania and it is difficult to choose just one topic but the Pieman River was something I could not have envisaged. Paddling a two person kayak had not been on my itinerary although it was certainly tucked away in Ian's mind. The early morning start was great and the care taken to give us a full run down by the staff member at Corinna made me feel a whole lot more confident. (I had not kayaked in years). Taking care of our camera gear was a small challenge but there was no way we were paddling to Lovers Falls ( well at least to the landing) and then walking all the way back without our cameras. The early morning gave us beautiful light and the reflections were only possible to capture from the water. The serenity of being the only ones out was something to tuck away as one of those special memories.
We tied up at the "landing" and managed to alight without disaster. Great to leave the kayak right there for the company to collect at their leisure. The dry meant that there was just a trickle coming over the falls but the tree ferns were like giant umbrellas and cast a rare kind of ambience in the small amphitheatre. We shot off many photos trying to capture just that. The 1.5 hour walk back along the Savage River was yet another unique experience and of course it took us much longer as we tarried with our cameras.[Pieman River and Tree Ferns at Lovers falls JPG[/attachment]
