Two Day Kokoda Training

Postby Smonkey » Sun 18 Aug, 2013 5:22 pm

Day 1

So we all met up at Delorain, now all together we proceed onto our destination, we arrived at the car park & starting point of "Parsons Track" with bad weather warnings we wasn't sure of the day ahead but we gear up & begun our hike anyway

The track was a steady incline, we decide to do Charlie's loop, which was great it really mixed it up with heaps of things to climb over, under & up, we also (with all the rain the last few days) had to do some little creek crossings

We finally made it to Haberles Hut (tiny little mountain hut) were we stopped for lunch, it started to snow while we was finishing our launch (it continued for a while) Once refueled we were keen to push on to Parsons Track & begin the return walk, so umm we find the pink track ribbon & begin, after heading up for awhile we start to think gee this is getting high, so we stop & realise we we were close to the plateau, bugger wrong way lol, So we turn around & head back to Haberles Hut where we find the right track just across from the hut whoops extra training lol

We finally return to our vehicles (5.5 hours if hiking) Well Pasons Track was awesome & the weather was great

So we head off to the Hadspen Hall to clean up, relax & enjoy some Healthy Coconut Chicken Curry. After tea & some good chatting it was time to hit the sack for the night

Day 2

Early rise & hard floors = a stiff bunch of hikers lol

We dragged ourselves off the floor & got into some well need coffee lol then fueled up with Eggs & Bacon

With a big change in weather we decided to stay close to town & train at our usually training place The Cataract Gorge so we packed up, geared up & set off to get stuck into some training, we arrive & it's bucketing down, but we must go on lol so we begin, on the way to duck reach we avoided all the running water on the track until we get to duck reach & head up Penstock Ladder, the rain had turned it into a waterfall, onwards we go by the time we get to the top & start to continue we were like drowned rats, wet legs, feet & hands, we ended up walking for 2 hours. Back at the vehicles we said our goodbyes & well downs, then departed ways & headed home for a hot shower & a good feed

All in all awesome 2 days of training, Bring on the real thing

looks like a good start to training.
I would suggest the Arm river track or the Wall of Jerusalem track as excellent up hill training venues
