The focus of interest for many would likely be mt Sedgwick but seeing as I didn't actually climb it, peak baggers may have just lost interest

This was planned for a few weeks ago but we couldn't see anything so I went back a week later during the last 'heatwave'. I was most interested in checking out the lakes on a circuit around Lk Margaret (which as an odd coincidence include my immediate family names) and just to ramble around on the range... which looks so inviting via google earth.. might stick a few more notes in at some stage, could likely be more a gallery topic without, but there are none 'extra artistic', no slr, just good old bluebird days

To sedgewick and back has pretty much been accurately described elsewhere, not difficult, though could be if you keep finding yourself on hidden cliffs- especially if the weather rolls in (compare the last pic). I can say that I would think twice about crossing the valley in front of Sedgwick as well as exiting down onto Lk Margaret sthn shoreline. The option of continuing along the range 'looked' reasonable. anyhow.. enjoy! :

do you know what those insects are, rather nasty looking spider being dealt to by something that flies....

Spider Wasp and Wolf Spider is about all i'd have without a (probably tedious) search. The wasps feed their larvae on spider. It may have bitten off more than it could chew, no hope of getting airbourne the next best option was dragging:

Oh, it would be very nice in autumn if you get the weather. I see sedgwick described as a day walk.. maybe i'm getting old and soft and ponderous, i would recommend a week in the area

4 or 5 days is our thinking, but yeap, no trip is ever long enough!

Ah, that would be ideal ! and you guys will likely do it much easier than me.
I ran short of days, the walk down from Lk Margaret is pretty tedious and I couldn't face climbing back up the other side so opted for the Queenstown taxi

Thanks tigercat, tbh i probably should have put more effort into the pics, hadn't planned on a report. I'd been wanting to go back there for some time, your posts i recall inspired me so I thought this might add to it.

Sedgwick is a daytrip from Lake Tyndall. I don't think anyone would seriously suggest it could be done from the Anthony Rd in one day.

I guess he's serious '9 hours from the road, 6 hrs from lake tyndall', neither would interest me.

Just got back from there.
Got up Tyndall and Giekie on the first day then tried to get out to Sedgwick on the second day from a camp at Lake Tydall. After 4 hours I was still about an hour from the base of Sedgwick so I gave it away. The forecasted cold front arrived just as I got back to my tent then proceeded to blow a gale and snow, all night, bent a tent pole!.
I was very glad I had set a turn around time in my mind and stuck to it. The range was cloaked in thick cloud and it would have been a very slow navigation back through the scrub bands with about 20 meters visibility.
I think my route select through the tricky bits of scrub was a bit poor on the way out as I cut 1/2 hour on the return. It could be done in a day but Bill Wilkinson's 6 hour return is a bit optimistic.

Very nice! It makes sense to camp and do day walks from there. Not a lot of cover anywhere when the weather turns nasty but there's not a lot out around lk Margaret either. I imagine staying up high and up on to the eastern ridge would be the best way on to Mt Sedgwick?

Much more sensible than I was. Times similar, but I was dumb enough to press on - never got no views neither.
Next time I'm camping by Myra. Or maybe even closer.

I found the Abels time frame to Sedgwick spot on if you don't dawdle. I was alone so find I can keep a decent pace up with no one but me to talk too!
Think I got back about 4pm as the light was disappearing from the scrub on the way back up onto the plateu

I always think there should be two times offered: Long legged stride or short bum wriggle on
