Fagus wach 2021

Only 4 days to Anzac Day and no-one seems to have started this topic. A second hand report from a ranger at Cradle suggests that it is a poor year, with 50% of yellow leaves already on the ground and no sign of red a week ago
Does anyone have any more information, encouraging or not?

It started fairly early this year, and is very uneven. I've seen some good images from Tarn Shelf, but most of those are a couple of weeks old.

We noticed it turning early at Cradle about a month ago. Nearly finished in places now. Some bushes were already bare in the Lake St Clair area over Easter. Other bits were perfect then, would be past it now. Methinks the Fagus Festival will miss most of it this year.

Fagus leaves yellow and dropping on the Northern side of Lake Ball (WOJ) as I walked past in the falling snow Tuesday.

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly it looks like we have missed it for this year - particularly disappointing after the lack of access for most of us last year. Now just hoping for a wonderful display in 2022 to show some who have never seen it.

Contrary to earlier impressions recent visitors to Cradle have discovered that it is well worth going up there now, and probably for the next week or so. One who was there at the weekend reported it particularly good around Crater Lake, a lovely fagus tunnel towards Lake Rodway, and a few leaves just turning red.

Anyone been to Tarn Shelf recently? Or alternatively have some other suggestions for places to try and see it near Hobart?

Tarn shelf is nearly done, was there 5/5/21, but the Lake Newdegate end of the shelf is better than the Rodway end and still worth a visit if you can get there now.

Lake Fenton has some very vibrant fagus, green through rust, and the section near the road below that is also great.
