Xmas Escape – Pine Valley & Labyrinth, maybe Big Gun Pass
Medium Length, Rough Terrain

Susanne & I have been thinking about a cruisy Xmas escape. Decided to go back to Pine Valley, the Labyrinth & beyond. May try to cross Big Gun Pass if weather & party mood are right. Trip pace cruisy. Philosophising, contemplation & photography encouraged. Trip philosophy at http://www.ahack.org. Reasonable fitness, sense of adventure, humour and 4 seasons gear required. Keen newcomers welcome.

We had about 12 interested all up, 4 actually went.

A most enjoyable trip was had :-) .

Plenty of pics in the slideshow "Slide Show: Xmas Escape 2010 - The Labyrinth with some White Sprinkling" at my website http://ahack.org/

We'd been concerned about gastro at Pine Valley.

Didn't encounter any, didn't hear about anyone having problems either during our time in the area.

Just received this message from a group member:
GP friend of mine who is also an outdoorsy person, told me that there has been very bad gastro from the Pine Valley area. Not mild, really serious stuff requiring medical intervention. Another friend who has some contact with Parks and Wildlife confirmed this, and said that PArks have cleared out the tank and done other measures none of which have fixed the problem. It 's likely that the possums have the gastro, and this means it gets in all the water sources, creeks or tanks or whatever.

Does anyone know more?

Not too many ants either.

Not even on the warm & sunny days.

great trip by looks of your blog pics. Thanks.

These really highlight the beauty of our great Tasy outdoors and the swiftly changing nature of our weather and the real need to be prepared.
Amazing stuff - we can have those days when the salami melts in the pack and next day the ice comes in to meet us.
