Hi all!

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how difficult Projection Bluff is to walk, and how long is the walk? Yesterday matt_22 and I did a walk up Quamby's Bluff and I was wondering if Projection is similar. Unfortunately the weather turned on us just as we reached the top of Quamby's, and we were unable to take in the views of the valley or do much exploring on the plateau. The rain also made the descent a bit slippery. I guess that reason enough to do a repeat walk inthe future

I went up Projection mid-last year with ILUVSWTAS and we found the start to be difficult to find due to a large pond dividing the track and some difficult to see tags on the other side. The track is also less well defined than Quamby, especially once you get on top of the bluff proper (the high point is several hundred metres from where you pop up on the bluff.

If I recall correctly it took something under 3 hours. I think we did Quamby in 4 or something?

PS: we didn't get a view from either, as it was misty and raining then too!

Projection is pretty easy when up top and views are good, plenty of pads through the scrub on the plateau and I imagine the Scoparia would be in full bloom now, which would be pretty speccy as there is a lot of it.
I didn't find a marked route up top.
The pool wasn't as big when I was there and I imagine would have dried off considerably since. Nice myrtle forest on the way up too.

It wasn't well marked though. And there were multiple leads, all over the place.

I only remember the 200000000000 cairns at the high point. At least I think I do. It was that walk, yes?

I have waked this at least three times now. You can walk around the pond when it is full quite easily on the Southern end. Just note the first taped marker position on the other side and rejoin there once on the other side. You can see the first taped marker through the trees as you get to the road side of the pond. The only place I have ever lost the track up the side is at a rather large rock where you turn sharp right. A very faint arrow is painted on the rock but most people go straight ahead at this point looking at the track from memory.

There is an easy to follow route on top around the rim to the northern end looking directly at Quamby. It is well cairned and easy to follow pad. Several eagles frequent here flying between Quamby and the end of projection bluff and they come up the side of the mountain very close on the up draughts. Seems like you can reach out and touch them.

I suspected as much, I(of course) straight lined it through the middle of the scrub which had numerous leads and leads to some small tarns in the middle of the plateau. Didn't see any eagles though

There is also a partially cairned route across the plateau to the Western side but I have only ever found the first part of it and lost it after that and probably did what you did, find your own pad. Pretty easy walking up there anyway. The scoparia was not out fully at Lake Ada/Silver last week so maybe a bit longer yet?

It was very easy yes. And yes there was about 50000000 cairns on the summit!
We also didnt see any tarns so lordy knows where you were Dan... :p

I don't just chase peakbagging-points my friend, but points of interest
Also found a cool roo skeleton....The tarns are pretty small and hidden by scoparia

Hahaha yeh yeh... so when are you off to Vanishing Falls??

We found a skeleton of something too. It was quite large!

Like a few of the others have said the track is a bit of a pain to find near the pond once you walk around it and its quite easy to lose the cairns across the plateau if you want to walk to the northern peak. But as a degree of difficulty the walk is much easier than Quamby.

Heres a couple of shots from my trip up there back in November. Even had some light snowfall while at the summit

Party climbed Quamby Bluff saturday 10th November. Track still in good condition , bit boggy on the plateau ,
clear enough for great views. Another party went to Projection Bluff. They reported difficulty finding a
track and very scrubby , plenty of scratches.
