Wodge circuit

Postby doogs » Wed 23 Feb, 2011 8:00 pm

I had been planning to visit the Walls of Jerusalem (WOJ), for a long time now and finally made there today.
After staring at maps and reading various subjects on the web, I realise I could make a circuit of my trip. And today the weather was set for "frikkin' awesome" (meteorological term, I think).
I left the carpark nice and early, half an hour or so after sunrise, heading for Trapper Hut. From there I headed straight past the hut, rather than following the WOJ track. A pad heads through Golden gate to Jaffa gate. The scenery through here was spectucular, without a breath of wind and the frost just starting to lift. Taking photos every 5 minutes I still managed to make good time and having the valley to myself.

When I got to the valley of Hinom I went off track up Mount Jerusalem. Reaching the summit I was suddenly back amongst society with several people there, I reckon I passed another 30-40 throughout the rest of the day. Meeting and greeting my way down Jerusalem I was keen to get off the main track ASAP. The Temple was my next stop, then over Solomons Throne and King Davids Peak.

Getting back to the track more "Hi, how are you going", I was starting to get tired and the walk back to the car seemed to take an age. Car count in car park 2 minibuses and 17 other vehicles.
All in all a stunning trip into one of our states special places.

I agree with you, I like to have the place to my self too, sorry about the selfishness. I do realise that there are a lot of people that want to enjoy what I do so I guess I will have to just put up with it. But you have the right Idea about taking routes that are not normally taken which will give you a more personal experience. I might just follow the same route in my up coming trip. I was thinking of heading in via junction track to lake ball and onto Dixons then out via the standard route. Have you walked the junction track? any feedback appreciated.

you will certainly see a lot less people on the junction track. its pretty easy walking and gives great views of lake adelaide as you approach it. the only tricky bit would be finding the lake ball turnoff when you get to adelaide although i dont reckon it would be that hard to find. i came the other way on my way to junction from the walls. the track is pretty well defined if my memory serves me correctly tho not marked (please correct me if im wrong).

Cheers

Dave,

Thanks, I am pretty sure I will be heading out via junction track, via lake Ball so finding the track head won't be an issue. As mentioned this is my first time to the walls and it will be a bit of a reccie wetting my appetite for more in the future.
I am hoping to get up all the peaks around the main basin in the 3 days which I am sure I will be able to a accomplish.

1. Zion Hill
2. Mt Jerusalem
3. Solomans Throne
4. Davids Peak.
5. Mt Moriah
6. The temple

I will be walking out via Dixons hut, Lake Ball hut, Lake Adelaide and then back to Trappers via junction track. A very full 3 days!

Pleased you enjoyed your day in The Walls. What a coincidence that was the day we went in for 4 days, though we went in through Herods Gate, our campsites were away from the crowds, and half our walking was off track. After climbing King David's Peak, we did a circuit along the top of East Wall to a camp in the valley south of Lake Ball for our final night.
Our trip back to Hobart late Saturday was broken by a lovely meal at your Cafe, at the same time a birthday party was being celebrated.

Hope the weather was as good for you for the rest of the week as it was on wednesday. I wish I could have spent more time there to explore. I will be back!
