adamsons pk 10th may

With another day off work and the weather forecast looking relatively ok, an early start led to the start of the Adamsons track for sunrise. With sources stating between 7-10 hours return, i wanted to make sure i left myself enough hours. In the end took me 8 hours which included a little stop atop and plenty of camera moments. The track follows small watercourses alot of the way , so it is fairly wet under foot, particularily on the flatter sections. the walk though the forest is nice with plenty of fungii of varying shapes and colours. And fairly steep at times!!

once out onto the plateau the track gets alittle hard to follow as the watercourses and wallaby tracks multiple alot. but tis open and flat and easy enough to wander back to the main path over time. here there is cushion plants and some lovely little colourful veg

And from here onwards for most of the ascent(50 mins) to summit i had company

But once at summit in blew the rain and clouds and after shelttering for a while with no indication of clearing skies, started back down. Hence half an hour later , beautiful clear skies wer back. dohhh!!!

Anyhow, its a fine , long day hike. i recommend plenty of time to explore the plateau around the old fire observation ruins, with all its colours, watercourses, ponds and flora.And no doubt xlnt views of the south west and storm bay and surroundings. that for me will hopefully come next time Iain

Sounds like a great walk mate, and definitely a good way to spend a day off!

Definitely one for the summer, if including mesa and the Calf. Or camp up there. Although the weather doesn't seem to be all that co-operative . . .

It's a terrific mountain and well worth repeating in fine conditions. The ridgeline traverse is stunning with the views to the coast and Southern Ranges some of the best you'll find of that area. The trip out to The Calf is worth it as the views back to Adamsons are unique!

I spent a lot of my time in the Pictons looking over at that ridge, trying to work out exactly what was under all the white fluffy stuff. It's nice to know that the cloud isn't a permanent feature.

A few hundred metres past the summit cairn on Adamsons is a nice little flat grassy area with pools of water. In fine weather this would be the best place to camp.
