I did a trip out and back to Dex Ck. on the weekend. I started form Katoomba and went via Narrow Neck to Medlow Gap and then to the Coxs via White Dog. Once across I went up Morriberri Pass to the Low Gangerangs visiting the Oak Terrace and Rigby Rock Lkt. I located and ascended Gentle's Pass and crossed the High Gangerangs before descending to Dex Ck. where I camped for the night.

On Sunday I returned via Mt Strongleg to the Coxs at Konangaroo. Then up steeply to Mt Yellowdog which I took in one push. From there I followed the track around to Mobbs Soak and then back to Medlow Gap. From there I retraced my outward route along Narrow Neck.

Even though the weather was overcast with mist and drizzle most of the time it was still a very enjoyable trip. Once you leave the Coxs there is no track at all up onto the Gangerangs so some map and compass work is required along there in parts. These days there is quite a well made track all the way back from Dex Ck which makes for quick travelling. 2:30 from Dex to the river. One hour to the top of Yellowdog. One hour to Mobbs. One hour to Medlow Gap. One hour to the end of the NN Fire Trail. 1:50 to the gate. 30 mins to Cliff Drive. 9 hours all up.

Sounds like good fun.

We were up that way on the weekend as well.

Seriously K, you are a walking machine. That's some distance/terrain to cover in those time frames.

With a good track to follow it is much easier. The outward route took longer. Closer to 11 hours.

Also I left two new titanium tent pegs on the ground at Dex.

This was only partially offset by finding $1 at Medlow Gap.

Sounds like a fun trip K. I went out over the weekend too, didn't see the sun nor star from Friday to Sunday but excellent weather for walking.
And don't give me any of this "God track" guff, that's still a three dayer for me on a moped!

Another thing I might mention is that I stumbled upon another flowing watercourse not far from Dex. Ck. This was just before my route joined up with the main track up via Mt Strongleg. It drained a large hanging swamp and carried more water than Dex Ck itself. The swamp is not marked on the map but you can see it clearly on the aerial shots. It is situated just to the north east of Dex Ck. I thought I should mention this just in case Dex ever dried up. This gives another option. I suspect the watercourse flows east then north into Moko Ck. ie it flows in the opposite direction to Dex.

Oh and another thing I should mention is that I found a lot of evidence of pig damage on the High Gangerang with one sighting of a black sow. I've never seen any sign of them up there before? something of a concern.
