Aarn Pack Front Pockets

Postby TerraMer » Sat 15 Dec, 2012 5:41 pm

What do you carry in your Aarn pack front pockets?

For me they are handy for sunscreen, chap stick, hat, beanie, gloves, head sox, water, snacks, tissues, camera, bottle opener, CPR mask, reading book, sacrilegiously folded maps, compass and head lamp

It varies, but snacks and water definitely on one side.

Last trip I carried, food, stove, snacks, water on the left and satphone (big oldfashioned Iridium phone), mobile, headlamp on the right with sunscreen in the outside mesh pocket. The distribution balanced in weight but not in volume.
This makes me the first man to climb Mount Everest backwards, without oxygen...or even a jumper.

Anything heavy. I load them up as much as I can. Always water and some food though.

Camera gear. Basic first aid bits. Spare jerky & chocolate. GPS, PLB, notepad & pen. Map/guidebook. Sometimes gloves.

Mostly it's stuff I want to be able to grab quickly.

Hat attached to a carabiner off one of the zips - covers one of my water bottles
Beanie and gloves stuffed into side mesh pocket
Map stored in full length mesh pocket closest to body
Scroggin in zip lock bag, asthma spray and vaseline in front mesh pocket
Obviously water
Head lamp
Stove fuel
Sunscreen
Powdered food (milk solids and sustagen usually)
Often an extra layer to wear when resting
Anything else heavy

I love my pack, looking forward to lightening my gear and downsizing the featherlight(?) freedom.

Tent (hubba hubba) stuffed in on one side and tarp scroggin etc stuffed into the other to try to balance the weight up on each side.
I need to do more walks to work out the best way of carrying what where, maybe I need to get some more gear....
