Body found in northern NSW National Park

Postby maddog » Mon 04 Feb, 2013 7:41 pm

THE discovery of a decomposing body at a remote campsite has forced the closure of a national park in northern NSW.

Basket Swamp National Park, about 25kms north-east of Tenterfield, has been declared a crime scene after a ranger found a man's body on the road-side on Friday.

Forensic experts have since been flown in and access roads have been closed.

Police have been reluctant to release further details but the man is believed to have been dead for some time.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was recently camping in the area and may be able to help solve the mystery to come forward.

The park will remain closed until preliminary investigations are complete.

Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
