What did Santa bring for Christmas?

Fri 25 Dec, 2009 4:06 pm

Okay the eating and drinking is half way over, the presents have been unwrapped, the button in the trousers has been undone to make lunch that bit more comfortable; so what did Santa bring?

I got books of suggseted walks and places to car camp in Tas - that is the next year or so worked out.

over to you....

I will have the yap taken out of me as my daughter gave me the Cambridge University Latin course all 12 units so that will keep me amused for about six months :)

Gee I was forced to do Latin in grade 7; not one of my fondest memories.

I received a pocket knife to make up for the one I left behind on the Central Plateau in October. I even know where I probably left it and the grid reference even, but it may be some time before I am there again. Sat down for lunch, in a valley just east of the Walls, beside a rock and tarn and reckon I didn't pick up the knife which was in a little green bag.

A new crash helmet for my MTB and enough cash to buy something useful for bushwalking, but as yet I haven't decided what. :)

Yep, can't believe the size and weight of it when packed up! AND it hold 20 litres.

Reckon it is perfect for the odd side trip or travelling. It just goes in your pocket!
Well done to my daughter who found it I reckon.

Ooops,
Forgot about this little baby. Electric bike.
- no licence required
- speed up to 25km (down hill and because it is red)
- range 60-80km (reckon you need to pedal a lot)
- fully legal
- fantastic for commuting

Oh yes, I got one of these tiny day packs too. It was in my Christmas cracker (Bon Bon). That's how small they pack up!

I don't usually take a day pack on multi-day walks, but just tie my raincoat around me and fill it's pockets for side trips (or sometimes empty the large pack and use it if walking from a base camp). But this tiny new day pack will be worth stuffing into the big pack and bringing along, I reckon.

Santa and I are not on good terms :) My boys wrote him a letter asking for what they would like. I dress up as him and deliver the goods. Next day Santa is the best and I am still just Dad  Good job Mummy appreciates Santa!

100 Walks In Tasmania by Tyrone Thomas & Andrew Close, great little book with some good general info.
I probably would've like to have seen more info on some of the mountains in the Wellington Park region as i'm fairly new to bushwalking and would prefer to start close then move out as my confidence/ability grows.
I also have the 2 walks books by Jan Hardy and Bert Elson ( i already owned these) and found these to be a good starting point also.
