As I mentioned in the thread about the newly released “Van Diemen’s Land”, which is based around the Alexander Pearce story, there was a hilarious article in the Australian about the earlier movie “A Dying Breed”, a horror film loosely based around the same tale. I really wish I had time to dig up the article online.

Nevertheless, the gist of the article was about how one Tasmanian tourist body thought the impressive wilderness shots in the Dying Breed, a extra violent film based on inbreed descendants of Alexander kidnapping, murdering and eating tourists, would encourage moviegoers to holiday in Tasmania. Another top brainless suggestion might to be to say “Wolf Creek” is a great film for promoting backpacking in the Aussie Outback? Likewise, I like to show my guest the original “Long Weekend”, so they feel secure when I take them coastal camping! (Yes, I am being a comedian)

I suppose now I can understand why the new school hut at Windy Ridge is so heavily fortified. After watching the above movies most people would feel too horrified to leave there front door and those that do want to feel secure when trekking through the wilderness? Needless to say, the Windy Ridge Hut would be an awesome place to film “A dying Breed Part 2”. It could be the ultimate vengeance flick where the remaining descendants of Alexander storm the hut looking for fresh meat. No doubt with all the extra little hallways and alcoves it would be easy to make at least a couple of the victims hold out for the 90 minutes or so running time. Biggest issue might be how could the film be used to promote travel to remote Tasmania?

I have heard on "the grape vine" that a second walking party are in the planning process of another soon to be commenced assault on the expedition from Coal Head to Ouse ( a second retrace of Mr Alexander Pearce's footsteps )

I wish them a successful journey. It will certainly be a life changing experience for them.

Stay safe guys, and I hope you meet with much better weather conditions than we did.
