Fishing on the Coxs river

Hiya, I have previously done the six foot track and camped at the coxs river. I saw people fishing down there, and I was wondering "if I took my Fly Fishing rod, and fished down there would I catch anything"?

There are resident trout in the Coxs river. A good run of spawning trout come up from the dam with the first significant rain in May, it is legal to fish for them in the lower river as it is not a declared trout water (check NSW fishing regs for details).

I heard many years back that one could walk to Cox's River from somewhere near Dunphy's Campground or from Narrow Neck closer to the Lake Burragorang where there are plenty of fish. It's an overnighter if you want to have a good fish. On memory it near Yellow Dog Hill or Dingo Mountains or Iron Mountain or Iron Monger something?

Any ideas?

paulps - there are a number of accesses that can work. From the Dunphy campground, you can walk to the confluence of the Coxs and Breakfast Ck either by taking the track down Breakfast Ck, or by going out the ridge line to the W of Bfast creek. it is obvious on the map. Or, you could go up from Dunphy's towards narrowneck and then out the bridle trail to Yellow Pup, which is further d/stream on the Coxs. Again, the map shows this. These are not secret, but perhaps some of the better known tracks out of the area into the southern Blue Mts. You are still a long way from anywhere if things go wrong.

Hi all, its been very quiet on the trout front in the coxs this year due mainly to the high temps and low rainfall in the catchment area.though the trout have done it tough the local mud marlin(carp) are breeding like rabbits and really need to be culled back severely. They are happy to take a bread fly and will run you around for ages on a 4/5 weight rod. great fun in anyones book. There are still trout around but you will have to work hard for them. good luck cheers troutboy
