Thanks!

The problem is that I saw the light at the end of my tunnel. Me and my girls have started getting out and hiking... then someone turned out the light (and now we all know what happens when the lights get turned out!!).

I have found a few blogs from women who have hiked while pregnant... I will add, since it seems to be of concern to the forum members, I will ask a medical professional for advice about the medical side of things, and obviously if I am not feeling up to it (ie, exhausted, too sick etc) then I won't be doing it. Those things I will talk to with midwives etc. Obviously (or perhaps not) when I ask these questions I am not looking for medical advice on my pregnancy... I am just after experiences. Who has actually done it, for good, bad, or worse.

Anyhow, in case anyone in the future stumbles across this conversation and wants some thoughts from mums who have done it. I will offer these couple of blog posts that I found, in addition to the helpful advice already given by the forum members.

The last three posts are very inspiring. It can and has been done (so I am happily hoping to be able to keep it up). I have the added advantage of already planning all my walks about a 3 and a 5 year old... so being close to home, having exit strategies, and taking it slow are already the norm for me!!

All very inspiring.

I) have you considered the Yuragir as a supported walk? so you need not carry so much? clarencevalleyexperience.com.au/ - you could ask
II) Consider a sat phone. They can be hired for short term use.
III) The Yuragir as I recall is between Grafton and Coffs - I'm doing it October (supported though.) I had a vague idea that Lismore, Gold Coast (Southport, out of Carrara) and Coffs Harbour all have helicopter rescue - while no-one is going to be doing a beach landing at night, a coastal walk within 20 minutes flight time of these centres actually strikes me as a lot safer than the Overland. Admitttedly the overland now has helicopter pads most stretches, but its much more likely to have adverse weather conditions limiting flying than the NSW North Coast - they sometimes can't go inland but the coast is rarely a problem during the day.
Enjoy whatever you choose. Sounds like a good reason to make your partner responsible for the toddlers.....

Thanks, that is exactly what we are doing. :) We are just finalising plans now.

We are doing the walk with some friends, one of whom has a 6month old baby so is happy to be our support. She is going to drive one of the vehicles from campsite to campsite, leaving us to just carry daypacks. It will also give us the option of having two of the children (and 1 additional adult) skip a leg if they need to (for whatever reason).
