bushwalk-tas in-jokes aside, Jon is a fascinating character with a great eye for adventure and hardship. A small summary of his outdoors aceivements is here: http://www.everesthistory.com/climbers/jmuir.htm They fail to mention his legendary actions at either The big K (Mt Keira) as part of the IRA (Illawarra Rockclimbers Association) or at Araps.

According to the ABC website, this is dated 8 September. I assume this means it was shown on 8 September last year? Otherwise it'll be worth watching out for on 8 September this year.

I remember watching this story on TV about some years ago (4 or 5 I think).

I also remember watching this several years ago. I remember there was a sad bit at the end.

Thanks very much Dancier for this post or I would have missed seeing this film altogether. I don't know if this is the same film that won at least one major overseas award but obviously it would have much footage in common. Both Jon Muir's walk and his filming were both great achievements as the footage is really high quality and he must have gone to a lot of trouble to get it, especially on occasions when he must have been feeling pretty buggered, which must have been a fair bit of the time. Consider the dramatic footage of himself capturing that huge snake. And what about the aboriginal grinding stone - that would not have been in constant daily use and it's possible and even likely to have been used for thousands of years. Amazing! And Muir's slightly maniacal sense of humour comes across on a few occasions - most entertaining!
I tried sending it in to a friend in Germany who I knew would like it but we both got an email stating that overseas transmission was barred. What a pity.

I haven't tried this but have been meaning to give it a go on a few occasions especially with BBC channels where overseas viewers are blocked from watching there content. Most proxies run to slow but if your friend uses software like Identity Cloaker then he/she may have a chance.

Hi dancier
Thanks for posting that info. and my apologies for not acknowledging it sooner. I checked out the linked site at the time but didn't have any success but then I probably gave up too early as I always tend to do with things cyber.

Hi there, thought you guys might be interested to check out Jon Muir's website, http://www.jonmuir.wikispaces.com From that site you can purchase copies of both the film and the book 'Alone Across Australia.' There's also a lot of info about Jon's other adventures and his experience as a corporate keynote speaker. Cheers, Suzan Muir
