Re: What Injuries have you experienced on your walks

I was going to have an almighty whinge about the massive skin loss from blackberry bashing and falling off logs and into rivers over the weekend . . . but after THAT photo I don't dare.
*shudder*
I've had two white-tailed spider bites, both with nasty if relatively short reactions, but not as bad as that revolting mess.

The worst things I have suffered from are an agrivated achiles from a bad pair of shoes. I needed anti-inflammatories.

I have also suffered pretty bad recurring pain in tissue around an old fracture in my foot. For this I take aspirin. It reduces swelling and eases pain over a longer period than pain killers and without the drowsy side affects.
On the downside, the risk of bleeding out from a serious trauma is increased if you have taken aspirin.

On a recent first aid course I went to they said the only thing you can't improvise is a non-stick dressing.

Wanna bet? When I put that hole through my leg I used a . . . errrrr . . . 'feminine hygiene product'. Worked a treat. Highly absorbent in case of major blood loss.

Pads, mate, pads.

Of course, now that I'm post-menopausal, it's easier to just carry a few dressings, but it can be done, that's my point.
See, there is a reason for taking your wife/girlfriend bushwalking . . .

It wasn't quite that big a hole.

On second thoughts, it might have been, but I wasn't equipped to experiment.
