It also goes against the Admirals in the Defence HQ and the lobbyists from the sub mfrs. Can't upset those guys ...

I note that Cummings wants to dismantle a lot of the UK Defence HQ. Two multi-billion pound aircraft carriers, over budget and behind schedule, and no money left to buy modern carrier-compatible imported planes. The planes are way over budget and behind schedule anyhow. The pollies now are belatedly realising that those carriers can be taken out by a single medium-capacity guided missile or a single medium-capacity guided underwater drone/torpedo. But head in the sand and we will pretend they are useful - even if they spend a lot of their time in the dry docks.

It has been said, with some justification, that the General Staff (at HQ) know a lot about how they should have fought the LAST war. Some of them were still advocating cavalry charges and bayonet charges against German Panzer tanks in WW II. They were losing hundreds of thousand of troops PER DAY at the start.

But a sub or a carrier makes for a great photo-op for the Ministers.

There is a reason a carrier always travels as part of a fleet, they need that many ancillary warships to enable them to operate. ASW frigates Eagis cruisers etc

The figure I have seen for the Allied losses per day at the start of WW TWO was 288,000.
This was mainly due, I think, to the almost total lack of preparation by the British High Command. The generals were catering for a Boer War or a Crimean War, with some limited recognition of WW I. Troops in the trenches were slaughtered by the mechanised German war machine.

This is what destroyed the British class system: the troops discovered that their officers from the upper classes were, basically, useless. (Boris still is useless.)

Fires have severely impacted the mid area of Kosciuszko National Park with news that Selwyn Snow Resort, Kiandra Courthouse, Wolgal Hut, Pattison’s Hut and areas within the township of Cabramurra have been burnt by the fires yesterday.

National Parks staff said it was “gut wrenching.”

The Yarrangobilly Caves precinct and buildings has been defended after fire crews worked tirelessly for over 36 hours. Sources said the crew were exhausted.

Selwyn Snow Resort is a smaller snow resort open during winter and accessed via the town of Adaminaby and also guests visiting from the Tumut and Talbingo area.

One of the smaller resorts in NSW, it was ideal for beginners to learn to ski and has a rich history in the snow industry.

This afternoon the resort issued a statement.

“Selwyn Snow Resort has suffered extensive damage as a result of the recent fires. We are working closely with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and relevant agencies to arrange access to the resort, so we can fully assess the damage that has occurred.”

“The safety of our staff is our highest priority, with all staff safely evacuated before the fire reached Selwyn Snow Resort.

“While we know the Selwyn community will be saddened by this news, it is important to remember that the fire situation is still active in the wider region.

“We will update you with further information about the resort in the coming days.”

The Kiandra Courthouse is a heritage-listed former courthouse at Kiandra, an area known for its history of gold mining and the birthplace of Australian skiing.

Not until it becomes an election issue. If the media forgets this say by April and there is no royal commission, the events of this season will be forgotten quickly. I have hope though, that one day, one government will treat climate change like a war and spend and make the changes we need to.

My memory says it was plain heavy-gauge aluminium foil and duct tape, done very quickly by one Ranger (Ken Beath?)
Vaguely possible it was plain aluminium sarking, maybe.
You can even get something suitable at Bunnings!

Thats tragic, particularly Four Mile as it was so unique and loved by so many. Hopefully a lot of the tin survived and can be put back together.

A few weeks ago I walked past Four Mile going to Happys. I did not go down to Four Mile, but have stayed there. It was nice to emerge from the scrub and camp at Happys. No more. History is being erased. Is the above pic Four Mile?
