Another I watched and really enjoyed is the documentary 'Do More With Less' about the Pacific Crest Trail. It can be watched for free here:

Now that's one film that can never be as good as the book.

Might not be too bad, going by the trailer. Although Redford's a lot older than Bryson was when he did it.
The scenes with Mary Ellen are brilliantly done.

Ed Staffords
Walking the Amazon was good. In fact, pretty much everything Ed Stafford has done since is good (although, I guess these are survival tv shows rather than bushwalking). Also the recent series on BBC by Ray Mears (Wilderness Walks) was good (find it on youtube).
Also, if not mentioned already,
Van Diemen's Land is basically walking in the bush for the most part.

A movie based on this book was released in 1997 with Brad Pitt in the role of Harrer. I have it on DVD and enjoyed it even after having read the book many years before.

If you are interested in Tasmanian bushwalking in the 1960's to 1980's, I will put in a plug for the Launceston Walking Club's old 16mm movies produced for their "Do You Know Tasmania" shows which are progressively being released on DVDs. Details of contents and availability are here -
http://www.launcestonwalkingclub.org.au ... -dvds.htmlThey were produced to document a wide range of bushwalking locations and activities of their time, but now have many interesting social history records of old style camping and equipment, campfires being lit at every opportunity to boil the billy etc!

looking forward to this release next month, the book (Bill Bryson, "A walk in the woods" about the Appalachian trail) was hilarious.
