No I didn't say 'pay attention to this space mate'

Kinda like George of the Jungle...'watch out for that tree!'

Which brings me to a nother thing I've learnt

Don't just watch your footing but also your heading! ie branches above, especially if you're taller than your walking companions

The trick is in the recovery. I have memorised a swag of Russell Coight style face savers :)

There are some places you just don't walk in sandals and shorts.
Upper Thomson Rd to Stronachs is one of them.

The swedish backpacker chicks are always one day ahead or one day behind your party.
(Along the same lines, attractive, non-mad, single bushwalking chicks in Hobart in the 26-36 year old category are a myth*.

Ollster, you could try this. Visulise your new bushwalking loving woman. (Loves nature and being in nature, sexy, not mad, healthy, non critical, loving, orgasmic and expand to about 20 points) Everyday, imagine the pleasure and feelings when you are walking with this woman. Feel how much pleasure you will get out of this on a feeling level and not just in your mind.Do this for a few minutes a day and then totally forget about it. Repeat each day. The feeling aspect of this method is important as well as the total letting go.

For all the guys that will think this is a lot of total crap, I did this technique each day a while back and in a few weeks I got a woman that satified 18 out of 20 things I imagined. Beng the sex mad man I am :D everytime I did the exercise I felt her energy and I got turned on. She does love being in nature, and I am having the very best sex in my life, we have been walking in Tasi, New Zealand etc etc

If it works for you I will send you a bill for services provided :D

Or as an alternative method you could just buy a red sports car when you're all grown up?

If you're bike-packing near the Byadbo Wilderness, fake a puncture or preferably a catastrophic mechanical, and fix it sitting on the steps of the Deddick Isolated Woman's Group meeting hall.

Warren.

Things I have learnt: If your green/red colour blind, dont have identical shaped bottles, one green, one red, for metho and water. Otherwise you may try to boil a kettle full of metho and when that metho ingnites you may then try to extinguish it by pouring more metho on it (not that pouring water on a metho fire is a good idea anyway).
Ah the joys of spending time in an OT hut.

Maybe this has been said before...but it is something I have learnt: Even if you are not the organiser of the hike, read the track notes before hand AND bring your own map along...the leader of the hike may not have a map and have no idea where he is going, even if he has done the walk before!

Treat camping at Leaning Tea Tree Saddle the same as you would a visit to Casualty at the Royal: don't even think about it unless it's a major, life-threatening emergency and then, when you have briefly considered it, find an alternative.

Re: Things I have learnt.

I spent two nights at Leaning Tea Tree, admittedly after the last night we did have one of our party air lifted out.
Was a boring place to spend a rest day.

If you use billy lifters to pick up a billy of boiling water, and grip the handle instead of the billy rim, make sure the opening part of the lifters faces UP...

And don't have bare feet if you could forget this...

And preferably don't forget either of these on day 2 of a 9 day walk...

And preferably don't do a 9 day walk as your first backpack...

And preferably go with someone more experienced on your first walk

If you take a mate on a 2 day walk and this said mate is as about as useless as a doodle on a cow then make sure you take double of everything you need or find you'll only have half of your supplies for yourself since you have to nurse the scab the whole way through the trip....I should of known better.

Things I have learnt. Ok...
I have the best wife. She walks with me, she goes where I go, together we see reason and make good decisions. She trusts my decisions and offers her advice and opinion too.
She carries pretty heavy loads, for someone just over 5 feet tall she will typically carry between 19 and 23kg at the start of a walk. We walk together, and we share the memories of the walks we do together.

I have the best wife. That is all.

I have the best husband! When I said I wanted to start bushwalking he said yes. When I said we needed to buy gear he said yes and let me choose everything. When I said let's take a holiday and walk fo a week in Tasmania he said yes. When we walked for seven hours in the cold rain, he said he still loved me but next holiday we're going to Hawaii. I said, "Great, warm rain." He's definitely the best! :D

Do not take pity on a woman that is carring a 27 kg pack and expect something in return

I presume that stems from your story of the South Coast track, if memory serves me right...

When struggling under under a pack harness that does not suit you hauling up from Wineglass Bay you might find a delightful lady offering to carry it for you. If that happens get their phone number.
