Summit Gear Australian Wilderness Photography Competition

Postby FatCanyoner » Thu 30 Aug, 2012 3:07 am

G'day folks,

Given how many extraordinary photographers there seem to be among the bushwalk.com crowd I thought this competition might be of interest. My local outdoor shop, Summit Gear (one of the increasingly rare Aussie manufacturers as well as being a family-run outdoor store) are putting on this competition to celebrate great photos of the Aussie bush (and people enjoying themselves in it). They have organised more than $3000 in prizes (all of which is bushwalking gear), plus a 20% discount on your next purchase if you enter (I assume that works for online purchases too if you're not a Sydney local). There are four categories: Landscape, Action Sports, Canyoning and People in Nature.

It is completely free to enter, and the only real restriction is that the photos must be taken within Australian territory, including marine and outlying islands. Despite most of my pics being a bit average, I'm entering (I figure a could quirky ones from some of our nude trips etc might tickle the judges' fancy). Hopefully this is of interest to a few others. I'd be very surprised if a few of the regulars in the photo section of this site didn't take out one of the prizes!

You can get all the info and enter here: http://www.summitgear.com.au/canyon_photo_popup.html

And the competition poster is below FYI...

This might be of interest for anyone close to the Blue Mountains this weekend (if you're looking for something to do on the Saturday night after a bushwalk etc).

Summit Gear will be hosting an exhibition of outdoor images from their recent Australian Wilderness Photography Competition, as well as announcing the winners. It's on at their Katoomba store from 6pm, with the winners announced at 7pm. The best images, shortlisted from more than 300 entries, will be displayed up on the big screen. I'm also led to believe there are some lucky door prizes of awesome outdoor gear!

Unfortunately I can't make it, but both I, and another member of the Fat Canyoners, have photos that have been shortlisted for it, so it should be pretty exciting!

From the number of people I know (including me) who have photos shortlisted, I'm inclined to think they may well have been longlisted! :)

Haha. Are you suggesting Brett shortlisted all 350 entrants to try and maximise the crowd!
I have to admit, it wouldn't surprise me!!!

Well, he's got to print the shortlisted ones out, and find somewhere to put them up, so that probably limits things a bit. But I wouldn't say I'm backing my chances of a prize!
