With a pretty dodgy forecast up in the Blue Mts for this long weekend, I thought it was kinda timely to share a few thoughts on waterproofing your gear.

Apart from the 3 methods I outline:

1. Packliner
2. Pack Cover
3. Individual Items

What other methods do you use/know of?

I waterproof according to the region I'm in.
For New Zealand and Tassie it's the maximum, which is the best possible pack cover and pack liner.
Beyond that there might be separate dry bags for things like phone, wallet etc and toilet paper.
In Australia this wet long weekend I'll have just a pack cover plus a dry bag for personal items.

Is there a risk of overcompressing the down with this method?

Strider, I have thought about this, but as I store the bag unstuffed and unpack it as soon as possible each day, I've figured that this will keep it OK. I've had this sumptuous Mont Spindrift bag for about 6 years and haven't noticed any reduction in the overall fluffy factor.
