The Happy Wanderer - Song

Here is a version of The Happy Wanderer song that someone has set to scenery from the Appalachian Trail - thought people might be interested.

We did - just one week, when one of our number had a name that accidentally featured in part of the chorus!

Actually I think singing it gave a 'lift' to a couple of people for whom the walk was a challenge. So sometimes we/I sing other stuff along the way - watch out!!

Actually, one Christmas Eve, we scored a bunch of fresh trout from a fisherman who was pleasantly surprised by the carols in 4 part harmony.

Yes, had a canadian join the Cradle Huts one year who knew all the words to that and to various other apposite tunes - "Mud, glorious mud" an inescapable example on that walk. Good singer, quite sure he didn't appreciate my warbling "Vater ee" echos but sux, you sing on the track that's what you get.

Yes, I sing that one (was on a children's record my parents had when I was a kid) as well as the Hippopotamus Song (AKA, Mud Glorious Mud), also from a Flanders and Swan record my parents had.

I usually sing those when walking with my kids. They love it. We sometimes change the words to suit us and our situation.

We also make up our own songs. "Pink Mountain Berries" is our only original that has been sung on multiple walks.

My singing is really only suitable for the shower, but on the occasions I bushwalk with my adult son I'm guilty of annoying him periodically by singing The Happy Wanderer. Well the two verses I remember anyway; I think I learnt it as a kid at school, and I always substitute backpack for knapsack. Sometimes other ditties and occasionally attempt Climb Every Mountain from the Sound of Music as it sort of fits the activity, but no one should be subjected to hearing me try to sing that .
