Hi,

To my great disappointment I missed viewing this show yet again. It seems to be run by Channel 7 in a post-christmas early hours time-slot each year, or maybe every second year. It was on at 4:30am on Jan 3rd I believe. I just got back from a camping trip so totally missed any chance of seeing it. If anyone knows how I can get a copy to view, please let me know.

I've contacted the network previously and they said there is no way they can get me a copy or let me know when they'll be screening it again.

I've been trying (not too hard though) for years to see this. I think it's the one where they were rescued? I've only heard about it.

I can remember watching this when I was young - when it was first shown on prime time TV. They started from Glen Davis on large rubber rafts - and seemed to have a lot of trouble, as the river then (and now) is very shallow and sandy and in other places choked up with boulders. They seemed be making very very slow progress. And then, later, the film shows them suddenly in the lower Colo. They seem to have no footage in the spectacular Colo Gorge. Perhaps they had trouble with their camera, or perhaps they missed that section....

There were some good aerial shots of the Colo Gorge. I can also remember them eating the old dehyde meals - Farmhouse Stew etc. and trying to supplement this with fish they caught (Bass)

Other classic Leyland Brothers films - the Overland Track ("The hardest Bushwalk in Australia"), where Mike was lucky to survive a fall whilst climbing the Acropolis, and they were lucky to catch it on film ("Mike was lucky this time, but it could have been serious") and their first descent of Tuglow Caves*

You might like this Dave. Boring to some but magic footage for those that have spent time in the gorge. (Sorry for the hijack)

That was an amazing episode. No duckboards or official camp sites. They just stopped wherever they felt like, built a fire to cook their dinner and not to forget the "amazing new lightweight nylon tents" they were carrying (as well as film camera gear).

Have to admit my favourite is the trip they did to Cape York.

The show (but not the episode I'm after) is on again in the early hours this Saturday and Sunday.

4:30am Saturday on 7 TWO: "Mike and Mal take a look at the long-gone convict days on Norfolk Island, 1500 kilometres from the mainland."

5am Sunday on 7 TWO: "At Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania, Mike and Mal take a gruelling 100-kilometre bush walk."

With regards to the suggestion of finding episodes on Channel 7's "Catch up" site, I had a look, but the show is not important enough to be uploaded there.

The show is also on Ch 72 in the early hours on Tuesday to Friday (thats as far as the program guide goes). It does not say what episodes will be shown except for Friday (Murray River)

There are a lot of Leyland Brothers DVDs on Ebay - mainly 'Ask the Leyland Brothers'.

Slightly off-topic but consider getting a PVR. These things are so damn handy I would never not have one now. You never have to think about when a show is on, they are just queued up for you to watch whenever is convenient.
Ive got a Tivo so all I would need to do is add the word "Leyland Brothers" to my keyword search (called wishlist on Tivo) and it automatically records anything with the words in the title or description regardless of time or channel from now till eternity.
You can also set it to record a whole series directly with a couple of clicks.
Unfortunately I think Tivo's are no longer being sold although the electronic guide will still continue so I suppose you could buy one on Ebay.
Otherwise there are various other PVRs available but unlike Tivo which has no ongoing costs, if you want a decent online TV guide you need to pay for a Ice TV subscription. (I assume these also have the keyword auto-record function but only ever having used a Tivo I cant say for sure).
Either way, it totally changes your viewing habits in a good way and is well worth the money IMO.

Ice-TV is very good. You can set it to record individual programs, series or things containing certain keywords in the title or the description.

But you can also get similar things built-in to many PVRs. Topfield has what they call "Intelligent Recording" to find keywords, although some reports say it is not very intelligent. Some Topfield models have the ability to upload small programs to them (TAPs) which provide amazing functionality. SmartEPG is an alternative EPG which has better keyword searches so I am told. But there are also TAPs that allow quick ad-skipping.

Definitely worth getting one. I never look at live TV any more. Just skim the program once a week, and set up recordings. Then when I feel like watching something, just look through what I have recorded - comedy, documentary, movie, etc.
