Cache at Thredbo

Any ideas of where I can leave a cache at Thredbo? its the last problem I have with planning the AAWT. Booking accommodation there in Nov/Dec 1day before and 2 nights in the middle of the AAWT, and wondered if there are any places to stay that would hold a 20lt drum until I come through. All suggestions welcomed.

Try the YHA - good accomodation for walkers - I am sure they would hold it for you. No need for a drum and you could just post it rather than having to go there to make the drop.

When I did the Alpine Walking Track many years ago we left our food drop up the Cascades Track from Dead Horse Gap.

We put it in drums and buried it, maybe a few hundred metres up the Cascade Track. Nice deep soil with easy digging was no problem.

We gave the empty drums to tourists at Dead Horse Gap as we re-packed our food.

I know you did mention accommodation and storing food, I'm just stating what worked for us.

By the time you have been on the trail for a few weeks, maybe the LAST thing you want to see are all the people and buildings at Thredbo.

Have a great walk.

3 options

1. If you are going to cache, up Cascades Track is probably the best option. Fewer resort people, more hard core walkers than on the north side of the road.
2. If you have accomodation booked, why not leave it with them. Then you could box it instead of using a drum. I posted it to myself Poste Restante c/- Thredbo Post Office.
2. You could always resupply at the supermarket at Thredbo.

+1 for leaving at the YHA. I did exactly this last time I was doing the AAWT. Great place to stay a night and clean up as well with washing machines and dryers downstairs.
