It's cheap. Some lasts longer than others.

I've used a coleman tunnel tent for a couple of years without problems, heavy but it worked.

I suspect a lot of it is rebranded OEM equipment.
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.

IF you can get them their emergency matches are very good, but as PD says; aimed at the car camping market mainly and the mark-up on the brand is pretty high, it's brand I would only buy on sale. Having said that I have been looking at the big dome shelters as group shelters for a snow base camp

I get the impression that some of their products are available on sites like AliExpress for way less. They are the middle mark-up.

Only ever bought two things from Coleman : some heavy duty 10 inch tent stakes that turned out to be awful (the plastic tops kept snapping), and a CPX 4.5 LED Tent Light. The light was good, but the batteries were drained too quickly for some reason, and after I put new ones in, the red light indicating they're empty kept coming on. So from my experience, cheap is the only upside to buying Coleman.

Yes! We are far more superior and demanding on equipment.

I buy Coleman for car camping, but the only Coleman item I carry when bush walking is one of their plastic mirrors.

Generally too heavy.

I have a Coleman Xtreme tent designed for bushwalking/trekking, and it stands up to all sorts of punishment. I know people that have been using them for years on the Overland and other alpine trails. I'm not sure if they are made anymore. Slightly heavier than top-end gear, but soooo much cheaper, and very sturdy.

I don't mind plugging my Coleman Lakeside 3. It weighs about 7 kilos, so its a car camping tent only; but is very well made and good value price wise at about $120. I don't know if they still run the line. I do a bit of camping on the Monaro where it is very exposed and incredibly windy at times, and this tent has not flinched.

Just had a brief look at their tents. They look nice. Just a bit heavy the ones I looked at (3kg +)
I do like them.

I have a Coleman 9 person 3compartment dome for family car camping and haven't had any probs in ??7 years. Good design for what it's intended for........but it takes up nearly the whole boot and gives me a hernia just carrying it from the cupboard to the car or backyard  HEAVY.
Agree with above advice to only buying if on special.

I've used a few bits of coleman gear over the years and it seems to be pretty good for the price. It''s not fancy or ultralight etc but most of the bits and pieces I've owned have been both functional and durable.

I've owned a lakeside 4 tent for around 8 years which gets used every year for for about half a dozen trips. It's a great car camping tent with it's large covered vestibule area and apart from a few broken clips that are now held together with cord and a score of small holes from camp fire embers, it's still perfectly functional. From memory I purchased it on special for around $120 so I've definitely had good value out of it.

I bought one of their dual burner stoves at the same time but that died about a year ago and I've also had one of their D cell lanterns and a 'cooler' which I used to take to work. They were decent / average pieces of kit except for the cooler which wasn't very good at keeping stuff cool...

Spot on I would say. I own two of their Instant Up tents, an Instant up awning, a camp chair and a fuel lantern and love them all, but definitely car camping gear.

If I was buying a tent for car camping, Coleman would be at the top of my list. Good gear at a sensible price point.

one of the best things about coleman stuff, espessially older lanterns and stoves is that parts are still available for them. I've seen re-built two burners and lanterns that are older than I am. If I was looking for a two burner stove, Id get an older coleman and some new seals. Phan_tom, if you still have that stove, it would be worth getting the parts for it. the rest of it is middle of the range, but generally not bad. They do lots of OEM stuff on the cheap end.
Most of whats on Aliexpress is faked, so I wouldn't bother wasting time there.

We've got a bunch of Coleman stuff for car camping, as people say it is reasonable quality and not badly priced. Durability varies but if you look after it it's pretty decent. My camp chair is 5 years old and gets heavy use (I use it around home too) and is still in great nick. On the other hand our otherwise reliable Lakeside 4 didn't survive a gusty afternoon down at Dee Lagoon and ended up snapping a pole. For $150 though, you can't expect $1000 canvas tent durability.

Nope, I ended up selling it in a garage sale for $5 to some happy old fossicker. The only real thing that was wrong with it was the gas piping had come apart where it met the case of the stove from the burners. It caused a bit of excitement on a few occasions as a mini flame-thrower erupted while cooking dinner (I love the smell of singed hair in the morning...). I'm sure he hit it with the solder and had it fixed in no time but I mainly sold it because we have been trying to simplify our car camping setup and happily use a large gas trangia now instead of the huge stove / gas bottle / stand. I usually have a second lightweight backpacking stove if two burners are needed, or a second trangia, or both

We've had ours in some solid weather over the years with no serious damage, touch wood, did you have all the guylines out?
