While half way up to Lady Lake on Saturday, my 6 year old daughter says to me:
Every step we're somewhere else.

Whilst resting at the side of a track my 10yo daughter pointed out something exciting: "Look at that worm dance!". When I told her it was a leech she refused to sit down the rest of the day until she crawled into our tent after dark. We had to do regular leech checks to make sure that none had dropped onto our packs or clothing. Needless to say I was really glad to call it a night and finally rest my feet.
Her philosophy...if it can eat you, don't give it a chance.

They don't eat you, they just have a little drink and then bugger off to enjoy the digestion process. Ticks are the real menace - they latch on for the duration and pump poison into you whilst they're there. I'd rather a hundred leeches than one tick.
