Actually a "Whole of body powder" question really
At long last I have run out of army foot powder since the place where I used to buy it closed up.
I'm using one of the generic talc and zinc oxide based powders but it is slow to act on the dreaded crotch-rot we all seem to suffer sometimes when it gets hot and sticky and as I've not yet found another good and dedicated GP who's willing to take on new patients for long term health management I just want one over the counter

Any suggestions on a brand or a mix of different ones" Curash is what I'm using ATM as it's the cheapest

Depends what 'crotch-rot' you're talking about...

if it is chafing then any talc powder or a cream that reduces friction (i.e. with dimethicone) will work. the disadvantage of cream is that it can promote the conditions that might favour fungal growth.

If it is a fungal infection (i.e. tinea cruris) the best treatment option is to use an antifungal cream (i.e. canesten) or anti-fungal with hydrocortisone to reduce inflammation and itching. Antifungal creams need to be used for around a week after the signs of infection disappear.

i was a medic in the army many years ago and have substantial experience with the little green bottles of army foot powder. i don't think there are any magic ingredients in it. Nor did I use it or recommend anyone use it. But to each their own and many diggers swear by it.

I'm pretty sure that the ingredients are just talc and cornstarch or something similar. Which means thta it has absorptive and anti-friction properties but no medicinal ingredients. It is not scheduled by the TGA so i doubt if it contains an antifungal.

I think the "Magic" ingredient if it can be called that is the Salicylic acid

My bottle dates from Vietnam era courtesy of my uncle and the refills were from a Wodonga surplus store

Which unit SLP? You may have run up against my uncles and brother over the years, but well over 2 decades since they were in

Salicylic acid is in 'Soov' powder and it is used to prevent prickly heat.
The aluminium hydrochloride is an antiperspirant, i think.

I got out of the green machine in 2011. I was in a brissy, sydney and darwin, mainly - in wodonga twice at the army school of health. Tooles Disposals (where you got the powder, presumably) closed down around a year ago.

My bottle is dated 1976
yep the [Al-HCl] is the antiperspirant part that does a lot of the work and the Zinc oxide provides an alkaline part that discourages fungi

I have a shell dressing somewhere that is dated from the 1940s....

My issued water bottles (that i still have) date back to the late 1960s....

Until recently i still used them attached to the hipbelt on my pack. They've probably never been cleaned either...
