I'm thinking of jumping out to Frenchmans Cap next week to get a wee 3 day trip in before the white stuff threatens too much, as I'll be down in Hobart for work stuff... Yay!
I'd love any recent news, tips, conditions, things to be aware of, etc... Thanks!

I was there at Easter and it was quite busy of course.
The weather was terrible on summit day so we couldn't reach the top sadly but made it half way so we will be back!
We used our tents but there were no complaints about bugs etc from the hut people.
There's a lot of track work being done so the track is quite good for the most part.
Good luck and I hope the weather is kind to you, which it rarely is down there

Thanks Dan... I'll bring my snoring proof tent and all my wet weather gear... In the hope that I won't need them.

https://www.facebook.com/Tasmap/photos/ ... =3&theaterNew map just released for Frenchman's, might come in handy. IMHO a 1:25000 would be more handy closer to the summit as there's not a lot of detail on the previous version of the linked map that I carried. If you have time, definitely walk a short way down the irenabyss track, spectacular views !

Thanks CasualNerd... Great tip! I need to pop into a shop in Hobart for some fuel, so I'll try to pick up the map at the same time. Can you recommend a good one in town?

Curious to know how this walk worked out for you? Was the weather kind on summit day?

Hi,
The next time you're in Hobart try Elizabeth rd. There's at least 5 outdoor shops within 200 meters. Also a map shop across the road where they probably have maps for the entire world.
Also, thanks for your videos on youtube. Big fan
