Michael Mosley found dead

Mon 10 Jun, 2024 5:06 am

Greece but a situation that can happen down under. cause of death to be confirmed,
went for a casual walk for several hours in exposed rocky terrain , temp in the high 30's...
appears that he fell esveral metres over a bluff but may well be heat and or dehydration related as well contributing to the fall. almost certainly didnt have enough water, was already complaining of feeling unwell before the start of the walk..

What a terrible turn of events. I have regularly followed Michael Mosley's TV shows more for entertainment and interest, depth of research and collaboration to prove the point, rather than any need or desire for weight loss, better sleep, lower cholesterol or whatever else the subject comes up. The news that he went missing on what we could interpret as a very short walk, albeit over terrain that even the locals don't frequent, didn't strike me as unusual initially, but then each subsequent report became more serious and bleak in tone, leading up to the events of finding him yesterday. The radiant heat from the terrain he was crossing would have been warning enough for him to get out of there, but it seems, again from reports, that he didn't quite make it and collapsed, hitting his head.

Very sad news. Condolences to his family.

Having been in the Greek Islands during the middle of summer it is very hot. Most of the islands we visited were devoid of trees which made the rocks scorching. Even mid-30s temps felt a lot hotter.

Yes it’s very sad, I’m a big fan of his.

The reports all seem to have some measure of conflicting/contradictory information but it does seem strange that he would attempt such a walk in those temperatures, with little water and already feeling unwell. The trail leading away from his initial starting point looks extremely steep to begin with.

Perhaps a combination of feeling poorly and being affected by heat led to some poor decisions. I hope his family have some answers in time.

Yes, so sad...never underestimate the effects of heat on your mind & body even on short walks.

sad state of affairs and a great loss..
but a reminder to all that not only can you not skimp on carrying water but you actually need to use it..
the times i've been walking in national parks around Sydney and come across people with only a small 600ml bottle of water in hot weather.. :(
at one point in the blue mountains i even came across a walking group that had almost run out of water and had no means to sterilize any!! while we all had lunch i used coffee filter papers and a UV steripen to provide 6 liters of water for them!!

I watched a doco on him couple weeks ago about his life etc... one of the episodes he cooks his own blood to eat I think it was biscuits , I couldn't look as he was whisking away his blood in a bowl like it was eggs.
