Another worn out part.

Just wondering if anyone in the bush walking community has undergone any successful treatment of hip bursitis. If so, what was it.
Just resting until it goes away is not a practical plan at the moment.

What does your physiotherapist advise?

Just the usual. Regular stretches and don't overload the sore bits.
Been doing that and a course of Celecoxib for a while now without much noticeable improvement.

See a specialist sports physician

See you GP….sort out diagnosis with ultrasound, and if celecoxib etc doesn’t work, consider a steroid injection or PRP injection to the area, dependent on the ultrasound findings.

It’s a friction issue, but sometimes the gluteal tendons are frayed/torn, which causes the friction. Not a problem that needs the part replaced!

Thanks Andrew.
Not keen on a new hip just yet !
Have had ultrasound already. GP suggested MRI if meds don't work.

Definitely get proper investigation done and exhaust all conservative treatments if possible, but;
My wife (not a bushwalker) was misdiagnosed several times with hip bursitis.
Tried various treatments, none of which had any effect whatsoever.
After much ongoing pain and reduction of mobility, eventually visited an orthopaedic surgeon at my insistence.
X rays revealed the actual problem and after a hip replacement surgery she was pain free, mobile and hasn't looked back.

Sportsmed specialist and an MRI. MRI shows bursitis really well.
