Inside or outside?

So I've lost a bit of weight again and I may decide to keep the OR Neoplume pants. The problem with them tho, is that I suffer from cold knees and there isn't enuf insulation in these pants in that area; 60GSM to the top of the knee and 40GSM from the top of the knee down; not enuf so I need to add some more.
There are arguments for and against each solution but cosmetically if I add it on the exterior I'll need to buy a small piece of fabric which with postage will cost $11- but I can then make it so a foam pad could be placed in the knee area for kneeling on cold wet ice and snow
If I add the extra inside then cosmetics are lass of an issue but there won't be room for the foam pad
There are 2 alternatives to adding the extra insulation also, depending on whether I add internally or not
Sew on an extra or unpick the side seam and add the extra so it is invisible afterwards
Will it really matter if there is a seam visible from the outside?

I have some 60GSM Primaloft from an old Army parka and some 85GSM Apex from Simon and even some DuPont Insulbrite any of which should add sufficient extra warmth
Yes this long-winded ramble is half asking for help and half thinking out loud

Go outside. You can add the sleeve for a pad, unpick th seams and sew it on so it just looks like a knee reinforcement patch from factory ;)
