Sewing a zipper

I wrote up a simple method I use to sew a zipper coil into your project.

Hope it helps some.

Nice job.

It doesn't go very far though.

What about:
- Termination at the top and bottom?
- Zippers on a curve?
- Two-way zippers?
- Storm flaps?

Thanks for the extra work Orion. I primarily put this method up as its not something I could find in other tutorials but your point is taken and I will add them to the list.

You're welcome. :-)

Seriously, I've never encountered a zipper project that didn't include terminating the ends in some fashion. The order can matter: install zipper pull and then sew or sew and then install the pull?

I've never been able to do it without pins, but that's probably a function of the material more than anything.

Two-way zippers I would have never figured out on my own. I found a description by Roger Caffin Lance Marshall of a method in a thread on BPL.

I have two-way zippers on my hammocks which are pretty simple but I might be missing something. I really need to get onto a tent build which i have been planning for way too long as people may find that a bit more helpful.

Is this what you mean with the two-way zippers?

That is a two-way zipper.

But the kind I meant, the kind that isn't as easy to install, is when the pulls are facing away from each other:

My Hilleberg Nallo has these type of zippers and they are very useful because of the way the front door is designed. I included one on the pyramid tent I made. I don't use it as much as with the Nallo but sometimes it's nice sometimes to be able to unzip the door from the top. It only added the weight of that pull (2.2g).

Got it. My pyramid will have that as well, so will document the process when i get to it sometime this century.
