Quick DIY windshield

Just in case for those who may need a taller windshield than the height of the aluminium flashing they have
Works OK if you happen to have the foil pressure sensitive tape on hand
Takes about 3 minutes to do with a cutting board and a sharp hard knife blade

It's actually Bi-Axial Mylar tape or similar with an aluminium coating; it's usually used to seal building paper to make it airtight but it works very well to do these jobs and as a leak stop on LW fabric

That's the tape you use for coke tin stoves too, isn't it?

Never made one but I think so

Tent pegs in the ground?

Ideally I want to create a cook kit which is all contained within my pot.

I want to make a cone of Ti or Al sheeting (haven't decided what would work better yet) which sits on top of the stove base and opens upwards around the pot and burner (~1cm gap for air flow) so there is no possibility of overheating the canister. The shield would need to be folded to be stowed in the pot.

Either that or create a cyclinder (minus base and top) which has a 1cm space around the pot. I haven't found the best way to attach this "floating" cyclinder to the stove base though.

TinTin I've never used a coke can stove so never even though about the issues with those, my experience of windshields is that they work best when on the ground tho and I'm not into mini pots, 1200ml is my smallest and with small canisters and the Pocket Rocket I own I've never come close to overheating the gas canister when using a straight shield
When packing my windshields always go on the outside of the pot so cylinders are fine for my needs, and the Titanium skewers don't weight much

For a cone type windscreen it is best to make it out of a material that has some spring in it - Ti or even shim steel. I made one a few years ago and the main issues with cone type windscreens is getting enough air flow in at the bottom and stability when sitting on the top of the canister in wind

I will be going with 0.1mm titanium after seeing how it reacts to stress. It's quite elastic at this thickness so will work well.

Thanks for the insight, Mark. I think if I can get the base diameter perfect on the cone then it should be stable enough. The top cone diameter won't be in contact with my pot, there will be 10-20mm between them which should allow enough air through and CO to escape. A few punch holes will help also.

Ti foil - it tends to spring everywhere!
But it can be controlled with two/three 1 mm Ti wire 'tent pegs'

Try a large disposable oven baking dish for raw material.

Moondogs build worked perfectly over the weekend in wet windy conditions ... Except on the side trip where we forgot to take it :)
