Another cheap sled build

Postby Moondog55 » Mon 11 Apr, 2022 8:51 pm

I was given another pair of old downhill skis this morning.
I was wanting a firewood sled for winter wood gathering so I went to Bunnings and bought some pine and a few bits.
I have plywood in the shed. Shaped the 42*19 pine to suit the skis profile and secured to the ski using small heavy duty "L" brackets.
Pix in the morning

Inspiration for this sled and previous ones from this site.

I need to go and buy some screw-eyes for tie-downs but this is good enough for a firewood sled

I found an old Imperial Eyebolt so I used a cheap mending bracket to attach it to the underside, reinforced with a small section of ply, we can use a carabiner or just tie a rope to it.

I won't bother with waxing or any other treatment. Might just give this one away after the ski season.
Using a sled makes fetching wood from other than the hut vicinity very easy and long branches are easy, with the ringbarking of so many snowgums up there [ Longhorn beetle grubs eating the sap wood] that there will be literally tonnes of dead wood to recycle as firewood.
I'd leave it in the hut for others to use in the future but Parks would just throw it away
