I'm in the process of assembling a frame for a fly for base camping/car camping etc;
Being sick and tired of those cheap fibreglass poles breaking I invested in some 12mm Easton pole sections and some angle joiners.
Half from TPT [ the BLACK] and the others from ANSCO [the GOLD] about 2400 wide and 2400 tall.
All 26 inch [ 660mm] sections so far.
I'm wondering if I need to replace the black centre section of the roof pole with a shorter length, either by purchasing new sections or by cutting the centre sections in half.
I have enough pole sections and angle joiners to make 3 sets of poles and hoping that I can set these at 1200mm spacing to suit the fly I have. So is what I have OK or will it be better with a more narrow top.
There is not much difference between a shorter standard length of 18" and the 26" existing but there is a reasonably large difference between 26" and 13"
There will be webbing or tape joining the three pole sets to take the longitudinal strain, possibly three sets at the apex and the joiners and some suitable way of joining the fly to the frame, probably Velcro tape. Also possibly be able to use shade cloth
I'd appreciate thoughts and feedback

The party speakers are a work in progress.
I use a Behringer CX and bi-amp usually but those are crossed passive

Any comments that aren't about my stereo set-ups?

What is your concern with the middle section? Why do you think it might be better shorter?

Sleeves would be the best perhaps? But a lot more difficult I imagine.

Just the feeling that if we get a significant rain event the steeper curve of a shorter centre section might help.
Sleeves would be a lot stronger but almost impossible for me to tackle, very small sewing table to start with.

My totally amateur feeling is that it is the stiffness of the whole thing that matters. If the curve is stiff and will stand up to the weather it doesn't matter that much how shallow or steep it is, the water will shed. But, if it somehow pools then it's all over.

I may have to rethink the pole spacing given that comment.
I'll start with 900mm and see how that looks.
Its purpose is to give a covered porch to our car camping tent as the Black Wolf vestibule is uselessly small in wet weather and I've not yet found the ideal dome shelter.
2400 * 1800 is a reasonable size, guying it back towards the big tent might give a couple of headaches but I have panadol

I've looked to update my family tent a few times and never found anything much that appealed. I think that Australians have moved on from camping to caravan/camper trailers and perhaps the market isn't there anymore.
