On the quality control issue and Zpacks, I believe this has been addressed by them (just my judgement of what I see and read) in the last months.
Firstly, remember all the "Bargain shelters" they were selling?
Listed as (words to the effect of) stitching not straight etc.. (still almost full price tho').
But they seemed to admit their stuff ups and shelters like my Duplex (but a concern for me with those big panels in the wind -but a palace inside) which has very straight stitching-cannot fault it (many others have said likewise lately) now seems to be the norm.
I think the second way (in their/his mind) has been to limit their offerings, trying to avoid all the stuff ups and complaints by making fewer shelters, but those they make, better.
Many dealings recorded on the RUL about their now stellar service!
Every email I sent them and there were many, were answered within 24 hours. That includes the ones after it had posted.
But after what I have read it is starting to feel like go time. Struts seem manageable and packing horizontally doesn't seem to be the concern I thought it may be.
It seems a wind worthy/handle up/magnetic/cleverly vented, sweet dream of a shelter.
Now I want a video-a full one or even two -one without removing struts the other removing them all and placing them back in to set up. Franco get in there so we can see what it looks like! On an Xlite, under a quilt/bag with some loft.
Franco what's the story with ordering and wait time after?

From experience those tie outs do way less than zpacks would have you believe.

Lol. I have the Plexamid and have tested and used it on the wild weather on the west of Tassie.

Have tested with the tie outs and not, and the tie outs are way better.

The tie outs makes some more space inside the tent, and keep the tent sides less bouncing over high wind.

Whatever The Zpacks says is not what I’m saying.

Franco what's the story with ordering and wait time after?
You can send an E Mail to orders@tarptent.com to tell them you are interested so that you could take a spot in the queue. Theses shelters are made in small batches in Seattle so as soon as one batch is out if in the meantime there are backorders , another one starts.
The first batch should be ready mid January.

I hope so. I have had a lot of contact with them over the past 6 years for various issues. Nothing that ever stopped me buying from them mind you and I would still buy from them. I just feel like a lot of issues could have been mitigated before their products left their end. Frustrating considering the cost of shipping to and from Florida. I still love my duplex and still feel weird about selling my Altaplex... I guess they have a lot more competition on their hands now so they don't have much choice in improving their QC. A real sink or swim situation...

I was referring to their ability or lack thereof to create space inside the shelter. As I mentioned the guy outs have worked for me in stopping the fabric from pushing too far in on windy nights. I used an Altaplex on the Main Range for years. I am very aware of their capabilities.

Maybe the inside space is difference between the Altaplex and the Plexamid. When I use the extra guys, there is significant more room inside the tent.

Also the mid rear is significantly angle wider than the Altaplex

Looking at the Altaplex on Zpacks, it doesn't seem to pull out much space:

The argument about tie-outs is a mute point for me because I always look for a protected site to reduce condensation. It is a valid point however and seeing as DCF is custom made, TT 0.5 is different to Zpack 0.5. I dont care but others may regarding wind.

The floor on our tarp tents (single wall) is connected to the fly via a mesh panel, about 5" wide, the Aeon is no exception.
That started in 2002 .
BTW, the Aeon can be pitched high or low depending on the weather (or maybe your trekking poles..)
On the left it's at 125 cm, on the right at 110cm

Thanks for those pics Photohiker. It does appear that the Plexamid was designed for those ties out a bit better than the Altaplex was.

This is made primarily for the trough hikers that want a fully enclose shelter but to whom every gram counts.
I think that it is a better design than some of the other shelters in this category.
There is an H missing there , somewhere.

Thats pretty good. Cheaper than the Plexamid and comparable to the Notch Li depending on what inner you choose.

Once again, its great to see some competition and innovation with DCF shelters. I have no doubt this will sell incredibly well. I wouldn't be getting rid of my Notch Li for it but it would be hard to go past this if you are looking for a single wall, single pole DCF shelter.

Interestingly he says he thinks the plexamid better suits people over 6 feet tall, my impression was it was going to be the other way around.

As Swami pointed out in his review, you can set up the Aeon from about 108 cm to about 128 cm , so it depends....
