Evernew Ti pot + clickstand question

Which boiled the longest? That would tell us a lot about efficiency. If the duration of the boil were longer for either one or the other, then we'd know which were the more efficient.

Just for the record.....I am never ever this pedantic.

Using the Clikstand & Windscreen
30ml Metho
500ml water
3 boils each

Trangia burner average length of boil time 3mins 7secs
Evernew burner average length of boil time 2mins 57sec

Like I said, not much between them.......

Tatonka & Esbit also have copycat burners simular to Trangia's.

Esbit burner :- Brass body
Rolling boil @ :- 6mins 15secs
Length of boil :- 3mins 4secs
1st flame to flame out :- 9mins 20secs

Tatonka burner :- Stainless Steel (Strange one this. Never came to a Vigorous rolling boil. Gentle Simmer boil only)
Rolling boil @ :- 11mins 15secs
Length of boil :- 7mins 33secs
1st flame to flame out :- 19mins 8secs

Left to Right :-
Esbit, Trangia, Tatonka
Front :- Evernew

Thanks for being so pedantic Ofuros. Your testing gave me the confidence to go ahead and put the order through for a clickstand. It came today and lives up to its weight specs so I've just cut 400g weight out of my pack. Now where will I head to try it all out.

The Esbit simmer ring looks interesting. How well does it fit on the Evernew burner vs the Trangia simmer ring?
I've tried the Tatonka but it's not a good fit.

Hi Ron,
Not as loose as the tatonka & the esbit fold out handle is a handy innovation. The simmer ring is the same size as the original trangia & i seem remember modifying a couple of trangia rings to suit the evernew burner to try and get it to simmer without much success.
I'll have look for you when I fly back from work on Wednesday.

Not strictly germane but I wonder about all these fancy alky set ups. The can can stove I just made myself brought 500ml of water to a rolling boil in about 4min 40 seconds (about 2.5 minutes of rolling boil with 20ml of Metho). Plus it acts as its own stand and weighs 6 grams. Of course, that's indoors at 17C with no breeze, but it makes me wonder about the appeal of other designs. Are they better in the wind? In the cold?

Edit: I should say that this was with a lid on the pot. Not sure if Ofuros' tests were done with lids or not.

Edit 2: Another test with 30ml of metho. 1 minute warm up, rolling boil at about 6 minutes (5 minutes heating time), rolling boil ends at 11 minutes and stove burns out completely at 11:20.

Edit 3: 2nd test: 30 ml metho. 1 minute warm up. Rolling boil at 6:05, boil ends at 11:15, burn out 10 seconds later.

Why do you muck about with Metho when you can get a cheap gas stove that will perform so much better?? did years with the metho Trangia till I saw the light

Corvus, I was with you until I started experimenting with this cat can stove. The way I see it for mild weather, shorter trips, for 1-2 people, this thing is going to be hard to beat at 6 grams and 60g of fuel per day (might be optimistic but seems reasonable). I think the question will be how cold it has to get before this little stove can't boil a sufficient amount of water with 1 fill (about 35ml)

Thanks for that - I can actually get the Trangia simmer ring to work quite well on my Evernew burner, but the neat folding handle of the Esbit version is quite appealing.
