G'day folks. I'm looking at getting a new lightweight 1 person 4 season tent.
Currently considering the Tarptent Scarp 1 and the Big Sky Chinook.

Feedback on these two and others very much appreciated.

I believe the Scarp 1 is only truly 4-season with the crossing pole set, which adds 340g.

That is correct Joomy. It wouldn't be my choice for snow conditions anyway. I'd be looking at 'mid style shelters for that.

Agreed. Jesling, I'd look at something like the MLD Solo or Duomids, with or without inner nets. Also the Locus Gear Khufu.

Looks like it. The Moment DW has vents halfway up the main pole.

the reason I asked was because I have the single wall Moment and have always had an issue with the structure (or lack of) of the bath tub follow and was hoping Franco may have some pointers as to how to address.

take a look at the photos in the original Moment page :

you will see that the floor does not have all that much tension .
If your pitch is not like in these photos, see if you can match it or let me know via franco@tarptent.com

For any Tarptent, the idea is always the same, the user set up should match the one in the photos on the web site .
If it does not then the shelter is not set up right.
BTW, the floor of the Moment DW can be set up so that the sides are sort of stiff, this comes from having a separate inner.

Certainly my pitch resembles that shown in the pictures and as you can see from the photo of the inside the floor is very slack and unstructured at the foot/head end. I have always considered this a bit of a weak point At at risk from water runoff or wind blown rain. Any other tent I own or have used has a very defined bath tub floor area.I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong with the moment but it seems it may be a "feature".

Fantastic tent in every other way though and easily my favourite for warmer, drier weather bush walks.

Thanks everyone. I road tested a Scarp 1 a few days ago, nice tent. I'm still looking into the Big Sky Chinook at this stage though, anyone out there used one?

If your not in a rush the new aarn pacer looks great (due out mid year). It will now be able to be used with a pole set so hiking poles aren't required (if you don't have them).
Ive looked at the chinook quite a bit but every time I emailed them they never got back to me so I gave up. One thing that I'd like to see is them implement the heavier pole set on the 1 man chinook, not just the 2. I'm not sure how the ultralight poles would handle really high winds (speculating here not first world experience).

I don't understand this question in light of the above posts. The Scarp 1 is 1.4kg plus .34kg for the crossing poles. That's 1.74 kg for 1 person in 4 season mode. Any locus gear, MLD or HMG mid is far, far lighter (under 1kg for 2 person size with an inner tent). The Big Sky Chinook which you yourself mentioned is also well under 1.5kg and is freestanding with a vestibule. So the Scarp is clearly not the lightest 1 person 4 season tent.

Update. I ordered a Big Sky Chinook 1p many months ago and still waiting for delivery.

The Scarp is in stock, if that helps...

To be fair the website does say "available June 2015". Whether it said that when you ordered it I don't know.

It was available when I ordered it, Joomy. The issue is being looked into. If I don't get an firm delivery date by the end of next week I'll look at other options. Cheers.

The OP was after a 4 season tent...
(I could be wrong but I don't see that S2S shelter as a 4 season one. )
Last we heard from the OP was in May when he was waiting for the Chinook he had ordered.

Looked to be just a single walled tent.
