milford and routeburn tracks, bridges removed for winter

to avoid avalanche damage some bridges have been removed from these tracks, the track may be impassable in heavy rain, which can be frequent..
also check with the local DOC offices for track information and avalanche danger..
last year a person drowned trying to cross a side stream on the milford track after removal of the bridges..
