Sun 18 Mar, 2012 5:59 pm

After a false start a few years back, we finally got to walk the lovely Greenstone/Caples Track. Day 1 is on my blog here:

awesome track,
hows the track realignment going from hte caples to the pass?
i know they'e already put a flash benched track in from the greenstone side... i did the track before hte put that in, I got to the bottom and got to a swamp, ummed nd ahed about putting away my slr camera that was dangling at waist level. deecided to put it away, I took one step and ended up going through the swamp up to my waist.....
they take all the fun out of the tracks these days. some great huts up there

Sure is wayno. Always something beautiful to see.

The Caples to McKellar Saddle track realignment is progressing well, but won't be open for a few months. Like the new track on the Greenstone side, it will take a different - and shorter - line. It'll save time, but I must say the old track is charming, and doesn't have any mud.

Glad you saved your camera from the Lake McKellar swamp. There's no risk of that any more, with bridges and boardwalk over those sections. Higher up the new track is a bit brutal in appearance as yet. It'll need time to soften, I reckon.

I agree the huts are great - more about that in later blog posts,

cheers
