The AAWT seems to have been realigned near Taylors Crossing. The old route was up Tablelands Road, dogleg north to 610282, then down SE and east to the Benambra Road. The Leinster 1:50,000 second edition 2011 has the AAWT following the Mitt Mitta River until 601268, then climbing NE to 610282. Chapman's notes at page 133 do not mention this. See

Can someone please advise where the AAWT goes on the east side of the Mitta Mitta River?

Looks like it follows Tablelands rd east then north on Lower Tablelands rd. Chapmans book (p133) does mention the original route along the Mitta Mitta is/was overgrown with blackberry and suggests the alt route. You could make that decision when you get there and weigh up if it looks doable. I'd avoid a 5k bash through blackberry if possible or take a machete! Either way you'll end up in the same place.

Yes, I saw that, but Chapman is 2009 and the map is 2011, so I would expect the map to be more accurate. Leinster is quite hard to read, thin faded fonts, not as good as any other contour map that I have.

Chapman is correct, along the roads. They obviously didn't update the Leinster sheet, possibly because the new routing is a detour and possibly but unlikely to be temporary.

Trust me, having done a fair length of the Mitta Mitta east of Taylors, you want to follow the road. The old route is gone, courtesy of flood damage and blackberry.
Just keep a careful eye out for the marker where you leave the road and head up on a pad that follows a very old and overgrown dozer cut. Then when you get to the 4WD track at the top, turn left and watch for the next marker on your right that marks the start of the track down to Morass Creek.
Morass Creek itself is also a bit blackberryish, plus has a bit of cutting grass and the like. And whatever you do, don't drink the *&%$#! thing without treatment.

Thanks, roads it is. I saw a post by NNW about Morass Creek, not to drink, and am bypassing that as a campsite in favour of the Mitta Mitta. Might camp on the east bank nearer the toilet.

The better side for camping is on the western bank - nice grassy flat and no through traffic spewing up dust or locals having day out. Almost no vehicles unless they ford the Mitta Mitta or 4wd quite a few km to access.

Thanks for that information, west is best. Why are there no toilets on the west side? Cost? No toilets is a negative.

Too difficult to service a toilet on the west side when you have a good road on the other. Both sides will get plenty of traffic on weekends and holidays. The west side does get a bit of long grass but it is cut on some infrequent basis.
