SW Cape Circuit 2009 - Part 1

Here are some images from a 10-day trip around the South West Cape circuit in February 2009.
I flew into Melaleuca and walked the circuit in a clockwise direction: south to New Harbour, west to SW Cape, north to Noyhener Beach, then cross-country over SW Cape Range and Pasco Range back to the Port Davey track and Melaleuca.
This is part 1 – the flight from Hobart to Melaleuca. A fine clear morning and a direct track to Melaleuca over the Eastern Arthur Range yielded some spectacular views.

Burgess Bluff and South Picton range in the immediate foreground. Directly behind are Strike Ridge, Lucifer Ridge and the Crags of Andromeda, with the remainder of Western Arthur Range extending into the distance.
Mount Bobs, Precipitous Bluff and New River Lagoon.
The Eastern Arthur Range, with Mount Hopetoun in the foreground. Federation Peak and Geeves Bluff dominate the range at the left of the picture. Other prominent features are (left to right) Devil's Thumb, Four Peaks, The Gables, East Portal and The Dial.

You certainly had an amazing day to fly in Lex - looking forward to Parts 2 ,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 ,9 etc etc!

Thanks Wello. Shooting through the perspex window isn't the best and you do get a bit of degradation. I try to pick a reasonably clear part of the window and hold the camera lens as close to the window as possible. Colour shifts can usually be fixed in Photoshop.

Maybe if you ask him politely the pilot will remove the door for you? Bloke did for me on a chopper flight up at Nitmiluk about five years ago.

I think they will on request if you charter the aircraft - expensive way of getting some photos though. On the normal passenger flights there's no chance, and the windows don't open either.
