Mt Field area - April 26

Hi All,

Spent a big day in the park on 26 April with a circuit walk from Wombat Moor - Mt Mawson - Lake Belton - Tyenna Peak - Florentine Peak - K-Col - Rodway Range - Tarn Shelf - Lake Dobson.
Thanks to the 2 ladies who gave me a lift back to Wombat Moor, hope they were BWT members
A great day with really mixed conditions, here's a couple of pics.

Nice shots Dan, the point 'n' shoot camera is working a treat!
Do you just use it in veggie 'auto' mode?

I love the view in #6 with the lovely greens and the river cascading down the side.

Curiously - this is the only one with a washed out sky. The rest are nicely balanced.
To overcome a washed out sky you need to underexpose the shot [most cameras have little plus or minus buttons] and then use some photo editing to brighten the duller parts.
But once a part of a photo has gone into total white or total black it is impossible to recover any detail from it.

Yep auto mode for me mostly, especially on a big day when I'm covering a lot of ground. Could have spent hours just on the walk into Lake Belton, you travel through some really beautiful and varied country, and the little tarns before the lake were stunning, I might stitch a pano....
I'd have more points if I didn't do the silly little 1 pointers with Mark!!! I'm on 69 everyone's favourite number

The view to Naturaliste and Field West is awesome from up there but I was getting blown away by this point and it was freezing - I decided I would have to come back on a nicer day to fully appreciate the area.

I understand the theory, as an editor and colour-grader I'm always having a go at cameramen for stuffing up their exposure, but when you can barely stand up......

Here's a pano from one of the tarns, there are several just above Lake Belton itself - I knew they were there but just jaw-dropping on this morning.

Nice photos dan. Nice to have met you the other day. Hobart is a small town!
Particularly like the icy pandani pic and the shot looking towards Field West. Was right there just recently.
How long did the round trip take? Plan to do the same circuit when it gets warmer again, but will camp midway - probably just below Florentine at some nice tarns I spotted on my last visit. Will also tackle the walk in the reverse direction that you took - coming down Tyenna and then out via Wombat Moor.

Likewise Andrew, small town alright, but to live 6 doors away!!!
It took just under 9 hours - I got a lift back to Wombat Moor by 2 ladies who did the circuit as you propose to - they camped quite close to Tyenna from what I understand.
Pretty exposed up there if the weather got bad, there is a very nice campsite next to Lake Belton also.

Quite a talent with that camera Dan.
Hey, your experienced enough to know that if im going on a walk down that way to bag points it's likely to be a sh'ter of a scrubby green top.......

Maybe you need to start repeating some of the good ones then???
I'll be down your way to do Nevada Peak or Snowy South mid-late May.

Hi Mark,
Have you done the walk from Nevada peak to Snowy south and then out via Skinner? Would need a car shuttle. I would be interested in doing it this way sometime. Not sure though how long it would take to get through - don't know what you might encounter past Nevada - looks pretty bouldery most of the way from what I have seen and I am not the quickest on boulders.

Hi Andrew.
Yes I have, and yes it is mostly boulders. Not HUGE ones but some average ones in places. It's mostly open and easy going though. I have camped at the Snowdrift tarns a couple of times, it's a lovely spot for a tent.
